Ingredients

  • 1 cup breadcrumbs
  • ¾ cup brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ½ teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, melted
  • ¼ cup chopped pecans or walnuts (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Core and slice the apples thinly and toss with 1 tablespoon of brown sugar and a sprinkle of cinnamon.
  3. In another bowl, combine breadcrumbs, remaining brown sugar, cinnamon, and melted butter until crumbly.
  4. In a greased 9×13-inch baking dish, layer the apple slices and breadcrumb mixture, repeating until all ingredients are used.
  5. Bake for 40-45 minutes until apples are bubbling and topping is golden brown.
