Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups of sliced apples (like Granny Smith or Honeycrisp)
  • 1 cup of brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon of cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon of nutmeg (optional)
  • 4 cups of bread crumbs
  • 1/2 cup of butter (melted)
  • 1/2 cup of raisins (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon of lemon juice

Instructions

  1. Grease the inside of your slow cooker with butter or cooking spray.
  2. In a large bowl, combine sliced apples, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and lemon juice. Toss to coat.
  3. Layer half of the breadcrumb mixture in the slow cooker, followed by half of the apple mixture and half of the melted butter. Repeat the layers with the remaining ingredients.
  4. If using, sprinkle raisins over the top layer before covering with remaining breadcrumbs and butter.
  5. Cover the slow cooker, set it on low, and cook for 4-5 hours until apples are tender and topping is golden brown.
  6. Once ready, serve warm, optionally with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.

Notes

Use a mix of tart and sweet apples for balanced flavor. Consider using a mix of white and whole wheat breadcrumbs for added texture.
