Ingredients

Scale
  • 6 pounds of apples (any variety, a mix of sweet and tart works best)
  • 1 cup of sugar (adjust according to sweetness preference)
  • 1 teaspoon of cinnamon
  • ½ teaspoon of nutmeg
  • ½ teaspoon of allspice
  • ½ teaspoon of vanilla extract (optional)
  • Juice of 1 lemon

Instructions

  1. Peel, core, and chop the apples into small chunks.
  2. In a large bowl, combine chopped apples, sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice, lemon juice, and vanilla extract.
  3. Pour the apple mixture into your crock-pot, spreading it evenly.
  4. Set the crock-pot on low heat and cook for approximately 8-10 hours, stirring occasionally until the apples are completely tender.
  5. Using an immersion blender, blend the apple mixture to your desired consistency.
  6. Taste your apple butter and adjust spices or sweetness if needed.
  7. Allow the apple butter to cool before transferring it to jars.

Notes

For a chunkier texture, skip blending. Store in an airtight container; it keeps in the fridge for 2 weeks or can be frozen for 6 months.
