Ingredients

  • 6 medium apples (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp)
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp nutmeg (optional)
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter (melted)
  • 1 cup self-rising flour (or all-purpose with 1 tsp baking powder)
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • Pinch of salt

Instructions

  1. Peel, core, and slice the apples into thin wedges. Place them in a large bowl.
  2. Combine sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg in a separate bowl. Sprinkle over the apples and toss to coat.
  3. Lightly grease the slow cooker with butter or cooking spray.
  4. Add the apple mixture to the slow cooker.
  5. In another bowl, whisk together melted butter, flour, milk, vanilla extract, and salt until smooth.
  6. Pour the batter over the apples in the slow cooker.
  7. Cover and cook on low for 4–6 hours, until apples are tender and the topping is cooked through.
  8. Scoop out servings while warm and enjoy as is or with vanilla ice cream.

Notes

To make it gluten-free, use a gluten-free flour blend. You can prepare the apple filling ahead of time and store in the fridge overnight. Store leftovers in the fridge for up to 3 days or freeze for up to 3 months. Reheat in microwave or oven before serving.
