Ingredients

  • 1 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

Instructions

  1. In a medium saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter, stirring constantly until golden amber and nutty, about 5–7 minutes. Be careful not to burn it!
  2. Remove from heat and let cool slightly. Stir in both sugars until combined and smooth.
  3. Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition, then stir in vanilla until smooth.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt. Fold into the wet ingredients until just combined; do not overmix.
  5. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease an 8×8-inch baking dish or line with parchment paper.
  6. Pour the batter into the prepared dish, spreading evenly. Bake for 20–25 minutes until edges are golden and a toothpick comes out mostly clean.
  7. Cool on a wire rack for at least 10 minutes before cutting into squares. Serve warm and enjoy!
