  • ยฝ cup (120 g) sour cream, room temperature
  • 1 teaspoon almond extract
  • 1 (21 oz) can cherry pie filling
  • 1 cup mini chocolate chips (optional)
  • 3 oz chocolate chips
  • 3 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1ยฝ โ€“ 2 cups (180 โ€“ 240 g) powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 3 โ€“ 4 tablespoons (45 โ€“ 60 ml) warm milk

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350ยฐF (177ยฐC) and prepare a 9 x 13 inch cake pan.
  2. In a mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, sour cream, almond extract, and cake mix until combined.
  3. Gently stir in the cherry pie filling and mini chocolate chips.
  4. Pour the batter into the prepared pan and bake for 30 to 35 minutes.
  5. Let the cake cool in the pan for 1 hour, then remove and place on a serving platter.
  6. Melt the chocolate chips and butter in a microwave-safe bowl, then mix in the powdered sugar, vanilla, and warm milk to make the icing.
