  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 cup chopped pecans
  • 1 cup chocolate chips
  • 1 cup caramel sauce

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. Cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.
  4. In another bowl, combine the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Gradually add this dry mixture alternately with the buttermilk.
  5. Fold in the chopped pecans and chocolate chips until evenly distributed.
  6. Divide the batter between the prepared pans and smooth the tops.
  7. Bake for 30 to 35 minutes until a toothpick comes out clean.
  8. Cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then turn out onto a wire rack to cool completely.
  9. Layer the cooled cakes with caramel sauce and drizzle additional caramel on top before serving.
