Ingredients

Scale
  • 6 cups apples (peeled, cored, and sliced; such as Granny Smith or Honeycrisp)
  • 1/2 cup sugar (adjust to taste)
  • 2 teaspoons cinnamon (for warmth)
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice (to balance sweetness)
  • 1 cup oats (rolled, for texture)
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour (for binding)
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar (adds a toasty flavor)
  • 1/2 cup butter (melted, for richness)
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt (to enhance flavors)

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine sliced apples, sugar, cinnamon, and lemon juice. Toss until the apples are evenly coated.
  2. Pour the apple mixture into the bottom of your greased crockpot.
  3. In another bowl, combine oats, flour, brown sugar, melted butter, and salt. Mix until crumbly.
  4. Spread the oat mixture evenly over the apples in the crockpot.
  5. Cover and cook on low for about 240-360 minutes or on high for 120-180 minutes, until apples are tender and topping is golden.
  6. Once done, check that the apples are soft and the topping is crunchy.
  7. Scoop and serve warm, preferably with a scoop of vanilla ice cream!

Notes

Mix different apple varieties for depth of flavor. Adjust the sugar based on the tartness of your apples.
