Ingredients

Scale
  • 8 slices of Brioche or Challah Bread
  • 4 large Eggs
  • 1 cup Heavy Cream
  • 1/2 cup Milk
  • 1/2 cup Sugar
  • 2 teaspoons Vanilla Extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon Salt

Instructions

  1. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, heavy cream, milk, sugar, vanilla extract, and salt until smooth and well incorporated.
  2. Cut the bread into thick slices (about 1 to 1.5 inches). Arrange in a greased baking dish and pour the custard mixture evenly over the bread. Let soak for 15-20 minutes.
  3. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Bake the soaked bread for 25-30 minutes until golden brown and set.
  4. Remove from oven, sprinkle sugar over the top, and use a kitchen torch to caramelize the sugar, or broil for 2-3 minutes.
  5. Allow to cool slightly before slicing. Serve warm, optionally garnished with fresh berries or whipped cream.

Notes

Day-old bread works best for a more custard-like texture. Feel free to add spices like cinnamon or nutmeg to the custard mixture for added flavor.
