Ingredients

  • 1 ¾ cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • ¾ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 ½ teaspoons baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ cup vegetable oil
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 2 large eggs

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. Add vegetable oil, buttermilk, vanilla extract, and eggs to the dry mixture and mix until just combined.
  4. Pour the batter into a greased and floured 18×13 inch sheet pan.
  5. Bake for 25 to 30 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  6. Allow the cake to cool for 15 minutes in the pan, then transfer to a wire rack.
  7. Frost the cooled cake with your favorite chocolate frosting.
  8. Cut into squares and serve.

Notes

For a lighter version, consider using whipped cream or cream cheese frosting.
