Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup milk (or almond/oat milk)
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • Powdered sugar, for dusting

Instructions

  1. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt until well combined.
  2. In another bowl, whisk the milk, egg, and vanilla extract until smooth.
  3. Slowly pour the wet mixture into the dry ingredients, stirring gently until just combined.
  4. Heat a pot of oil over medium heat. Check if it’s ready by dropping a small amount of dough into the oil.
  5. Using a spoon, drop small dollops of dough into the hot oil, frying for about 2-3 minutes on each side until golden brown.
  6. Remove the beignets with a slotted spoon and let them drain on paper towels. Toss generously in powdered sugar while still warm.
  7. Transfer the beignets to a serving plate and enjoy warm, optionally with dipping sauces.

Notes

For best results, fry in batches to avoid overcrowding. To store, place in an airtight container at room temperature for up to two days.
