Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • Colored sugar or sprinkles for decoration, optional

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 325°F (165°C) and position a rack in the center.
  2. Cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy, about 2 to 3 minutes.
  3. Add the vanilla extract and mix until combined, scraping the bowl as needed.
  4. Sift in the flour and salt, mixing until the dough is smooth.
  5. Roll out the dough to about 1/4 inch thickness; chill if too soft.
  6. Cut shapes using Easter-themed cookie cutters and place on an ungreased baking sheet.
  7. Sprinkle colored sugar or sprinkles on top if desired.
  8. Bake for 18 to 20 minutes or until lightly golden at the edges.
  9. Cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack.

Notes

Store cooled cookies in an airtight container for up to 5 days. Dough can be chilled for easier handling.
