Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 cup unsalted butter (melted)
  • 2 teaspoons cinnamon
  • 4 cups peeled, sliced apples (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp)
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1/2 cup oats (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13-inch baking pan.
  2. In a bowl, mix flour, brown sugar, baking powder, and melted butter until crumbly. Press half of this mixture into the bottom of the prepared pan.
  3. In another bowl, toss the sliced apples with lemon juice and 1 teaspoon of cinnamon. Spread the apples evenly over the crust layer.
  4. Combine the remaining crumble mixture with oats (if using) and the remaining cinnamon. Sprinkle this topping over the apples.
  5. Bake for 30-35 minutes or until the top is golden brown and the apples are soft.
  6. Cool for at least 10 minutes in the pan before cutting into bars.
  7. Serve warm or at room temperature.
