Ingredients

Scale
  • 6 cups of bread, cubed (day-old or stale works best)
  • 4 large eggs
  • 2 cups of milk (can substitute with almond or coconut milk)
  • 1 cup of sugar (brown sugar adds depth!)
  • 2 teaspoons of vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon of ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon of nutmeg (optional, but recommended)
  • 1/4 teaspoon of salt
  • 1/2 cup of raisins or chocolate chips (optional)

Instructions

  1. Grease the crockpot with butter or cooking spray to prevent sticking.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, sugar, vanilla extract, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt until well combined.
  3. Fold the cubed bread into the wet mixture, ensuring all pieces are coated. Let it sit for about 10 minutes to soak up the liquid.
  4. If desired, stir in the raisins or chocolate chips for added sweetness and texture.
  5. Pour the mixture into the greased slow cooker and cover. Cook on low for 4-6 hours or high for 2-3 hours, until the center is set.
  6. Once done, let it cool for a few minutes before serving. Enjoy warm with your favorite sauce!

Notes

Store any leftovers in the fridge for up to four days or freeze for up to 3 months. Reheat in the microwave before serving.
