  • 23 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350ยฐF (175ยฐC) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone mat.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt until well combined.
  3. In a large bowl, beat the softened butter and granulated sugar together until light and fluffy, about 3-4 minutes.
  4. Add the egg, then mix in the buttermilk and vanilla extract until fully combined, followed by the red food coloring.
  5. Gradually add the dry mixture to the wet ingredients, mixing just until combined.
  6. Scoop even portions of dough onto the prepared baking sheet, spacing about 1-2 inches apart.
  7. Bake for 10-12 minutes or until the cookies are set but still soft.
  8. While the cookies cool, beat together the cream cheese and softened butter until smooth, then add powdered sugar and vanilla extract, beating until creamy.

Notes

These cookies can be made ahead of time and stored in an airtight container for up to 3-4 days. Feel free to substitute buttermilk with yogurt or milk.
