Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 45 medium apples, peeled, cored, and sliced
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Grease a 9×13 inch baking pan with butter or line it with parchment paper for easy removal.
  3. In a medium bowl, mix the flour, brown sugar, and salt, then add in the melted butter until well combined. Press this mixture firmly into the bottom of the prepared pan.
  4. In another bowl, toss the sliced apples with sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Spread them evenly over the crust.
  5. In the same bowl used for the crust, combine the remaining flour and sugar with the butter until crumbly. Sprinkle this mixture over the apples.
  6. Bake in the preheated oven for 35-40 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the apples are bubbly.
  7. Allow to cool in the pan for at least 10 minutes before cutting into squares and serving. Enjoy warm or at room temperature!

Notes

Mixing different apple varieties can enhance the flavor and texture. These bars freeze well and can be reheated in the oven.
