  • 8 cups mini pretzel twists or sticks
  • 1 cup unsalted butter (2 sticks)
  • 1 cup light brown sugar, packed
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda

  • Optional toppings: Chopped pecans or almonds
  • Optional toppings: Melted chocolate for drizzling

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 250°F (120°C) with racks in the center.
  2. Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat.
  3. Melt 1 cup of unsalted butter in a medium saucepan over medium heat.
  4. Add 1 cup of packed light brown sugar and stir continuously until bubbling, about 3 to 4 minutes.
  5. Stir in 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract and 1/2 teaspoon of baking soda; the mixture will foam.
  6. Pour the hot toffee mixture over 8 cups of pretzels in a large bowl and gently stir to coat.
  7. Spread the coated pretzels on the prepared baking sheet in a single layer.
  8. Bake for 45 minutes, stirring every 15 minutes for even crunch.
  9. Let the pretzels cool completely on the pan.
  10. Break apart any clusters and drizzle with melted chocolate or sprinkle with sea salt if desired.

Notes

Stir gently to avoid breaking pretzels. Store in an airtight container to keep them crisp.
