Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 box vanilla cake mix
  • 1 box (3 oz) orange gelatin mix
  • 1 cup orange juice
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tsp orange zest
  • 1 cup butter, softened
  • 4 cups powdered sugar
  • 2 tbsp heavy cream
  • 2 tbsp orange extract (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 8-inch round cake pans.
  2. In a large bowl, combine the vanilla cake mix and orange gelatin mix. Stir until well mixed.
  3. Add the orange juice, vegetable oil, eggs, vanilla extract, and orange zest to the dry ingredients. Beat until smooth.
  4. Divide the batter evenly between the prepared cake pans.
  5. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  6. Let the cakes cool in the pans for about 10 minutes before transferring to wire racks to cool completely.
  7. For the frosting, beat the softened butter until fluffy, then gradually mix in the powdered sugar.
  8. Add the heavy cream and orange extract (if using), and continue beating until smooth and creamy.
  9. Frost the top of the first cake layer, then stack the second layer on top and frost the entire cake.
  10. Slice and serve the cake.

Notes

Make sure your butter is at room temperature for easy frosting. Store leftover cake in an airtight container.
