Ingredients

  • 1 sheet puff pastry, thawed
  • 4 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 egg yolk
  • 1/2 cup chopped pecans
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 2 tbsp melted butter
  • 1 egg (for egg wash)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Lightly flour a work surface and roll out the thawed puff pastry slightly.
  3. Cut the pastry into 4 equal squares.
  4. Mix the softened cream cheese, granulated sugar, vanilla extract, and egg yolk until smooth.
  5. Place a spoonful of the cream cheese mixture in the center of each pastry square.
  6. Mix the chopped pecans, brown sugar, and melted butter until well coated.
  7. Sprinkle the pecan mixture over the cream cheese filling on each square.
  8. Fold the corners of each pastry slightly toward the center.
  9. Beat the whole egg and brush the edges of the pastry squares with the egg wash.
  10. Bake the danishes for 18 to 22 minutes until golden and flaky.

Notes

Serve fresh from the oven with coffee or tea; can also be refrigerated for up to 3 days.
