Ingredients

  • 8 slices bread (preferably brioche or challah)
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1/3 cup brown sugar
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 cup chopped pecans
  • Butter (for greasing)

Instructions

  1. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, brown sugar, vanilla extract, and cinnamon until fully combined.
  2. Dip each slice of bread into the custard mixture, soaking for about 30 seconds per side.
  3. Preheat a large skillet over medium heat and melt a tablespoon of butter until bubbly.
  4. Place the soaked bread slices in the skillet and cook for about 3-4 minutes per side, until golden brown.
  5. Sprinkle chopped pecans on top of each slice when flipping to cook the second side.
  6. If cooking more slices, keep finished slices warm in a 200°F oven.
  7. Serve immediately, drizzled with warm maple syrup and topped with more pecans if desired.

Notes

Can be customized with chocolate chips or seasonal fruits. Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
