Ingredients

Scale
  • 8 slices of day-old bread (challah or brioche)
  • 2 cups fresh or frozen blueberries
  • 4 large eggs
  • 2 cups whole or almond milk
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 2 tablespoons melted butter

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13-inch baking dish with butter.
  2. Cut the bread into cubes and spread half in the baking dish. Sprinkle half of the blueberries over the bread.
  3. In a bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, sugar, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and nutmeg until smooth.
  4. Pour the custard mixture over the bread and blueberries, then top with remaining bread cubes and blueberries.
  5. If time allows, let the mixture soak for about 15 minutes.
  6. Bake for 40-45 minutes until golden brown and a knife inserted comes out clean.
  7. Let cool for 5-10 minutes before slicing and serving warm.

Notes

For a fun twist, try using croissants or adding coconut flakes.
