  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 8 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 4 cups powdered sugar

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. Sift together the cake flour and cocoa powder in a bowl.
  3. Cream the softened butter, vegetable oil, and sugar together until light and fluffy.
  4. Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition.
  5. Mix in the buttermilk, red food coloring, and vanilla extract until well combined.
  6. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.
  7. Divide the batter evenly between the prepared cake pans.
  8. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  9. Let the cakes cool in the pans for 10 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack.
  10. For the frosting, beat cream cheese and powdered sugar until smooth. Frost the layers as desired.
