Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground lamb or beef
  • 1 medium onion, diced
  • 2 carrots, diced
  • 1 cup peas
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup beef or vegetable broth
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 2 lbs potatoes, peeled and chopped
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. In a large skillet, cook the ground lamb or beef over medium heat until browned (6-8 minutes).
  3. Add onions and carrots to the skillet; sauté for another 5 minutes.
  4. Stir in minced garlic and cook for 1-2 minutes.
  5. Mix in peas, tomato paste, and broth; season with salt and pepper and let simmer for 10 minutes.
  6. Boil the potatoes in salted water for about 15-20 minutes until fork-tender, then drain.
  7. Mash the potatoes with milk and season with salt and pepper to taste.
  8. Spread the meat filling in an oven-safe dish, top with mashed potatoes.
  9. Bake for 25-30 minutes until golden and crispy on top.

Notes

For a vegetarian version, use lentils or mushrooms instead of meat. Leftovers can be frozen or stored in the fridge for up to three days.
