Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • ¼ cup granulated sugar
  • 1 packet (2 ¼ tsp) active dry yeast
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ cup warm milk
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 tablespoons butter, melted
  • Zest of 1 lemon
  • Lemon juice (from the zested lemon)
  • Optional glaze: 1 cup powdered sugar + 2 tablespoons lemon juice

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, yeast, and salt.
  2. In a separate bowl, mix warm milk, egg, melted butter, lemon zest, and lemon juice.
  3. Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry mixture, stirring until you form a sticky dough.
  4. Turn the dough onto a floured surface and knead it for about 5 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  5. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm area for about 60 minutes or until doubled in size.
  6. Punch down the risen dough and roll it into a rectangle. Cut into strips and roll up each strip to form a roll.
  7. Place your rolls in greased parchment paper inside the slow cooker, cover, and cook on low for about 120 to 150 minutes.
