Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup sourdough starter (discard is fine)
  • 1 1/2 cups chocolate chips (semi-sweet or your preference)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Add the egg and vanilla extract to the butter mixture, mixing until well combined.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt. Gradually add this dry mixture to the wet ingredients, stirring until just combined.
  5. Fold in the sourdough starter and chocolate chips until evenly distributed.
  6. Using a cookie scoop, drop generous balls of dough onto the prepared baking sheet, leaving space for spreading.
  7. Bake for 10-12 minutes or until the edges are golden brown and the centers look slightly underbaked. Allow cooling on the pan for a few minutes before transferring them to a wire rack.

Notes

Store cookies in an airtight container for up to a week, or freeze for up to 3 months. Chilling the dough for 30 minutes can enhance chewiness.
