Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 (21 ounce) can apple pie filling
  • 1 (15.25 ounce) box yellow cake mix
  • 1 cup caramel bits or chips
  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, melted

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) or lightly grease a 6-quart slow cooker insert for the slow cooker method.
  2. Pour the apple pie filling into the bottom of a 9×13 inch baking dish or the slow cooker insert.
  3. Sprinkle the dry yellow cake mix evenly over the apple layer without mixing it together.
  4. Scatter the caramel bits evenly over the cake mix layer.
  5. Drizzle the melted butter over the entire surface, covering the cake mix thoroughly.
  6. For the Oven Method: Bake for 40 to 50 minutes, until the topping is golden brown and the filling is bubbly.
  7. For the Slow Cooker Method: Cook on LOW for 3 to 4 hours or on HIGH for 1.5 to 2 hours until the topping is set.
  8. Let cool slightly before serving warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.

Notes

Consider adding cinnamon or nutmeg to the filling for extra flavor. Store leftovers in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
