Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 cups shredded cheese (cheddar, Monterey Jack, or mozzarella)
  • 4 slices thick-cut bread (sourdough or Texas toast)
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • Salt, pepper, and optional chili flakes for seasoning

Instructions

  1. Heat a large skillet over medium heat. Add ground beef and sauté for 5-7 minutes until browned. Drain excess grease.
  2. Add chopped onion and minced garlic to the skillet, cooking for another 4-5 minutes until the onions are translucent.
  3. Stir in salt, pepper, and optional chili flakes; simmer for 2-3 minutes.
  4. Spread butter on one side of each bread slice. Assemble with beef mixture and cheese on the unbuttered side, top with another slice (butter side out).
  5. Cook sandwiches in the skillet for 3-4 minutes on each side until golden and cheese is melted.
  6. Remove, let cool slightly, cut diagonally, and serve.

Notes

For extra flavor, try adding diced bell peppers or jalapeños. Can be made in an air fryer for crispiness.
