Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 loaf of crusty bread (about 1216 ounces)
  • 6 large eggs
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ½ teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1 cup chopped pecans
  • 1 cup maple syrup

Instructions

  1. Cut the bread into cubes and place them in a greased 9×13 inch casserole dish.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, brown sugar, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and nutmeg until fully combined.
  3. Pour the custard mixture evenly over the bread cubes, pressing down gently to soak all the bread.
  4. Sprinkle the chopped pecans on top, ensuring even coverage.
  5. Cover the dish with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 2 hours or overnight.
  6. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and remove the plastic wrap.
  7. Bake for 45-50 minutes, or until the top is golden and the custard is set.
  8. Drizzle with maple syrup before serving and enjoy warm!

Notes

Substitute the bread with cinnamon-raisin bread for a delicious twist. Store leftovers in an airtight container; they’re great for reheating!
