Ingredients

Scale
  • 8 ounces cream cheese, softened
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 egg yolk
  • 1 teaspoon lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 2 puff pastry sheets, slightly thawed
  • 1 egg white
  • 1 teaspoon water
  • 1/2 cup jam, jelly, or chocolate chips
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 12 tablespoons milk

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 400º F.
  2. Prepare the filling by beating cream cheese and granulated sugar until smooth, then mixing in the egg yolk, lemon juice, and vanilla.
  3. Roll out the puff pastry sheets on a lightly floured surface, cut into 4×4 inch squares, and prick the centers lightly with a fork.
  4. Brush the pastry edges with a mixture of egg white and water.
  5. Add a generous amount of cream cheese filling and a dollop of jam or chocolate chips to each pastry square.
  6. Bake for 15 to 18 minutes until golden brown and puffy.
  7. Prepare the glaze by whisking together powdered sugar and milk until smooth.
  8. Cool the pastries slightly and drizzle the glaze before serving.

Notes

Ensure the cream cheese is softened for easy mixing. Pricking the pastry helps avoid excessive puffing.
